Describing themselves as ‘jump-folk’, Films are a band from Leeds who are indeed difficult to put into a box. ‘Matilda’ offers a great and dark sounding song that owes a lot to folk music whilst very dissimilar to the likes of Mumford & Sons. Lead singer Joe presents the shaky quality that is present in indie favourites Jack Steadman of Bombay Bicycle Club and Orlando Weeks of The Maccabees. The beat on this track is precise, and carries the atmospheric and broody track brilliantly. They’re currently playing small venues in and around Leeds, but that won’t be for long if they keep writing songs of this quality.
