More lovely lo-fi for you in the shape of Austin, Texas trio Love Inks. Already garnering comparisons to The xx, their take on nocturnal melody has also been likened to Fleetwood Mac by way of Hope Sandoval. Okay, so maybe not the coolest of comparisons, but these three make some really quite lovely headphone-ready tracks perfect for these (not so) summer nights.
Love Inks debut album E.S.P., released in May, doesn’t sound quite as tight or tense as The xx’s debut, but in no way is that a criticism. Take single ‘Blackeye’, a sub-two minute ode to a friend’s war wounds that revolves around the repetition of one verse above a seriously pretty melody. And good old melody is pretty much the running theme throughout E.S.P., which also offers highlights in the form of ‘Can’t Be Wrong’ and ‘Skeleton Key’.
