New York-born singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey, otherwise known as Lizzy Grant, has delivered a bit of a belter with ‘Video Games’, her debut single.
It’s a startling and stirring dark-pop masterstroke that oozes sexuality by the gallon, rumbling along with a style shaped by Grant’s sultry voice, really intelligent lyricism and the 1950s. In all honesty, when you’ve listened to this once you’ll appreciate it for what it is, but in an hour’s time it will sneak up on your mind and you’ll find yourself playing it over and over again, trying to capture the sheer sexuality of lines like “I heard you like the bad girls, honey/Is that true?” ‘Video Games’ is the precursor to what promises to be an incredibly exciting debut album and a track that’s sure to create torrents of hype in the future.
